Was he drinking? Taking medication? What was his intent?

Personally, I could never allow a small child in my family to that window - glass or not, or even by the rails. My only thoughts would be "What if something happens? What if someone trips? What if someone bumps us? What if the ship tilts? What if, what if, what if...
I agree. There really should be glass in those windows. It’s an accident waiting to happen.
Aren't those tilt windows?

The videos were released. I believe 2 different angles were released.

I’m confused where on the ship this happened though. There wouldn’t be security footage in the rooms so this must have been a public area. Regardless, it’s well known and announced that railings are not to be climbed on. I’ve cruised Royal Caribbean many many times and I know there are signs posted around. Odd the article quoted someone saying there wasn’t. So sad.
It wasn't a railing, it was an open window in an indoor recreation room. Whether or not the grandfather should have been more careful, I think it's incredibly irresponsible to have large open windows ten floors up that are easily reached. Just like hotel rooms, above a certain floor those windows shouldn't be able to open more than a couple inches. It's an accident waiting to happen.

The storyline in the video goes that he was holding her above, not over, the railing. The railing that is the barrier between the deck and the window. How many inches away is the railing from the window?

If I made a mistake like that, I'd throw myself overboard.

Did you watch the video? He actually dangled her out of the window. He held her tummy down and because it’s blurry I can’t tell if her entire body was outside of the window or just the top half but you can tell he is holding her out the window.
The family is now mad that the cruise line released the video. They’re asking why they would do it and the just want to grieve their baby. I don’t get them they’re the ones who are trying to sue the cruise line. That’s not just grieving. The cruise line is protecting themselves. The family’s lawyer is saying they want all 13 cameras not just the one. Like the other cameras are going to show something different
They are suing so it doesn't happen again to another family. That doesn't mean they aren't grieving.

I don’t know. That was my first impression looking on the outside. The pictures from the inside just looked like there wasn’t any there. I couldn’t tell.

I didn’t see the actual video. Or clear pictures. But each article I’ve found describes it the same - up on a railing first.
Following closely behind the excited toddler is her grandfather, 51-year-old Salvatore "Sam" Anello. He watches her as she approaches the windows of the ship, then docked in Puerto Rico. Anello appears to lean over an interior railing in front of the windows.

Anello lifts Chloe onto the railing. In an instant, she's gone. Other passengers on the ship can be seen rushing to the windows as the 18-month old falls from the 11th story window.

Did you read the OP source? There is a railing about 12 inches away from these windows.

I thought the same about windows in a hotel room, however, a ship isn't a hotel. If ships were built sealed like high-rise hotels, they might not have as many cruisers.
