We have central heating and cooling.

For winter, we have the thermostat set at 71 and during the summer, we have it set at 74.

Holy hell! I would die. I've been keeping mine in the 72-73 range.

That's about the weather we are having this week which is unusually cold for us. Our typical winter day is overnight lows in the 40's and daytime highs in the 60's. We've lived in this climate for 8 years and have never run the heat. Our house seems to maintain 60's inside just fine without running the heat. Even this week it's maintaining at least low 60's. So no, in your scenario we wouldn't run the heat at all.

We have central, we keep it at 73 year round and the system does whatever it needs to do to stay there. I could go a little higher, my husband could go a little lower, and we just kind of settled there as a spot where we can both be relatively comfortable and dress accordingly to make up the difference.

We pretty much keep our thermostat at 68-70 year round, regardless of whether we're using a/c or heat.
