I think it's very true. In a health relationship, your spouse comes before your birth family, always.

I absolutely agree that this is what parent's are supposed to do....raise their children to one day leave them and have their own lives with whomever they choose, and THAT person comes first.

Why does it have to be a “this person comes before this person”? I cherish and care for my parents, it doesn’t come at the cost of my husband and kids. We are raising our kids to be good people, not to fill a specific role for anyone.
Absolutely true. As much as we want to be there for everyone sometimes we just can't.
My husband comes before my parents. I am raising my children to be the same way. Their spouse is and should be more important than me.
