I like how he is trying to engage gun owners and talk to them without alienating and/or demonizing them. You can’t have an intelligent discussion with someone if you insult them. We need real discussion from everyone no matter where you stand of this issue.

That's a light weekend for us here in Chiraq. Holiday weekends we can get up around 70 shootings. Gotta love those strict gun laws we have here. We feel so safe!Lexy wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:13 pmLedina60 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:02 pmSo lame.Valentina327 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 10:47 pm
Chicago has about the strictest gun laws in the country. Why don't you check out what our weekend shooting numbers are.
Yes, gun laws are being ignored. "So much negligence".
By all means - pass more gun laws. That's the answer. Because criminals ALWAYS obey the law.
Again, we need to address what's changed in society these last 15 years. Guns have been available for hundreds of years. Your car can be turned into a weapon. So can your cell phone. Guns are not standing up and firing themselves. This is a society problem - not an inanimate object problem.
Laws are not being enforced and the same old excuses are being used.
It is a GUN problem.
Sure, hunting is a tradition. Once a year most men in my state hunt for ducks , deer. Fine.
But people who need a gun and feel uncomfortable and afraid without one are way too common. It’s so unecessary to own one other than for hunting. Personally, I don’t respect or admire people who own hand guns or semi automatic weapons and feel that they NEED them. I feel that they are weak. They’re the ones who accidentally shoot family members or forget to lock their unloaded weapons away from kids. Or, a guy gets angry and shoots an old boss at their former place of employment. Or a guy who thinks someone has stolen his girl friend .
Guns are so extremely efficient- they kill dozens of people. Knives might kill one or two before someone grabs that person and stops them . A car will possibly run over one or two people .
Guns are romanticized as a manly object to carry. I’d run away from a guy like that.
To sum up — guns are fine for police, military or hunters.
Otherwise- ewww.no.
At Least 3 Dead, 22 Wounded In Weekend Shootings In Chicago

I was looking at the stats and there are more shootings here per hundred than in Mexico City. We need to seek asylum.
You'd think that intelligent people would look at this and see in REAL TIME, with a real life example, that what they're doing/proposing isn't working, wouldn't you?
Yes I said here and other times we need to enforce the laws we already have. Enforce the gun laws we ALREADY HAVE. We don’t need new ones to be ignored.
News flash - you will never ever get rid of all guns. Criminals can and do buy guns illegally. If they cared about laws they wouldn’t be criminals.
You are the only person I have ever met, in real life or online, that claims people own guns because of fear. IMO you are projecting YOUR fear of guns onto gun owners. By all means, if you don’t like guns and are afraid of them, for the love of God please don’t ever buy one.
Being your state allows concealed carry I can guarantee that every time you go out in public you are near or interact with someone carrying a gun. You just don’t know it, because it is concealed. They are normal people going about their life, not fearful scary people waiting for an excuse to shoot someone.
Don’t worry, I won’t buy a gun. I’m not a big chicken, paranoid type of person.

Where was she obnoxious? She made a point that your state allows concealed carry and she is right you would have no clue who was carrying while you are out shopping or just going or a walk.Ledina60 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:24 pmYes I said here and other times we need to enforce the laws we already have. But here’s another of many examples why average people will cause preventable shootings:
Child shot and killed in Heron Lake home
-
KSTP channel 5 in Minneapolis,MN
It appear to be accidental , due to negligence.
But let’s think about how and why this happens. And how it can be prevented.
And let’s be more honest and about the fact that the laws we have now are being ignored.
So much negligence.
And don’t forget the many cases of groups with hostile members who brag about their ability to shoot “ enemies” . They do.
And violence in marriage or relationships - some arguments become violent and with a gun in the home it can be deadly,
There’s more too- I’ll just leave this here.

What expired in 2004?

I wouldn't say in the last 15 years. Mass shootings from before then is what prompted the ban.

About 30 or so years ago was when the "assault-looking" weapons with high capacity magazines started getting really popular.DSamuels wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:20 pmPeople have owned guns in this country since before we were an official country. It's hard having conversations with people who don't respond. Just look at this group and it's predecessor. Carpy has tried many times to educate. I ask questions and attempt discussion, but some simply refuse and ignore.Mommy_jules wrote: ↑Sun Aug 18, 2019 11:21 pm I like how he is trying to engage gun owners and talk to them without alienating and/or demonizing them. It's like some, who have never seen these "assault-looking" weapons, defend them without realizing the weapons capabilities.

I understand. That’s one of the reasons I don’t participate in here often. I appreciate Carpy’s attempts to educate. I’ve learned a good bit. All too often many people are too busy “yelling” to actually listen, so I can truly appreciate when someone makes the effort to understand and empathize.CockatooCrazyColt529 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 5:51 amIt's hard having conversations with people who don't respond.
