Experts who study economic development say subsidy packages like the one New York is giving Amazon rarely pay off for taxpayers. That means the city and state are forgoing and spending up to $3 billion in tax revenue for potentially very little gain in exchange for the company creating 25,000 to 40,000 jobs and building a new campus in Long Island City.

Amazon needs Queens just as much as Queens could use the jobs. Why should they get a huge tax break just for expanding their empire? They are destroying small business just like Walmart went into communities and destroyed small towns. Screw Amazon.

Have you ever talked to a small business owner who was under the thumb of Amazon? Most would be happy on their own but have no choice.

Economic tax breaks or incentives are used by both large and small businesses to determine location to do business. The tax payers sometimes make out well. And the communities sometimes get decent jobs.
Economic Development Councils try to bribe businesses and Hollywood executives all the time. It's a good thing overall. Some are more help than others.

When Walmart moves into an area it takes HUGE tax discounts, construction costs and doesn't even hire all workers full time and does not provide benefits to a majority of their workforce. Also, they have had issues of hiring undocumented workers, locking them in the stores at night to clean and many others. Not only did ALL of these stores not do what they promised they took BILLIONS from the local economies and put hundreds of independent stores out of business. This has been going on for decades and no one has cared at all.....every year or two major companies go hunting for new locations based on tax credits and discounts.

The evils of Walmart are well known and it sickens me that so many Americans shop there.

And similar to this, it has been reported that one year after Trump’s huge corporate tax breaks, corporations have cut more jobs than they have added. Republicans had promised that this tax break would create jobs and increase wages. Wages are also still stagnant.
