The Democratic mayor (Jud Ashman) of Gaithersburg, Maryland wrote an Opinion piece that interested me.

He lays out the reasons he is supporting, and endorsing across the aisle. He believes Republican Governor Larry Hogan should be reelected in this very blue state. He has joined many Democratic leaders and citizens across the state in not supporting their party's nominee, Democrat Ben Jealous.

He discusses all the positive changes in Maryland and particularly Gov Hogan's ability to work across the aisle to achieve success.

What interested me the most was his sentiment that Democrats (and everyone else) needs to 'elect better Republicans'.

Read more of his opinion here:

I agree with his sentiment, but I'm a centrist myself. I'll be voting for a few Democrats in our local elections, because that is who I believe to be the better candidate.

I actually believe the majority of the country is more centrist and in that area more gets accomplished.

I agree - I search the candidates and determine who I feel would serve to role best - regardless of their political affiliation.

Locally I won't be voting for any Democrats but one - the county sheriff.

To those who point to the poisonous politics of the Trump era and ask how one can even consider voting for a Republican at this time, I’m sympathetic to that line of reasoning. I’d argue, however, that there’s a big difference between the federal and state levels, and that Hogan’s leadership style and ability to work across the aisle is actually a repudiation of the tribalism that has infected our political culture.

He exhibits civility. He works across the aisle with great success. And he has distanced himself from the president on many, many fronts.

Furthermore, here’s another way to think about it: if you’re disturbed, as I am, by the direction the Republican Party has taken in recent years, one very simple (if somewhat counterintuitive) antidote is to ELECT BETTER REPUBLICANS.

A byproduct of casting your ballot for Larry Hogan is that he’s exactly the type of reasonable, centrist leader you’d want to help try to steer an off-the-rails GOP back on track. As The Washington Post points out in its endorsement of his re-election, “In polarized times, [Hogan] has stuck to the political middle, from where he has fashioned agreements that will benefit millions of Marylanders.”

Better Republicans -

Right now everything that should be up - is up
Everything that should be down, is down.
That's with zero Democratic help and minimal Republican help.

I do think that - in the house and Senate(for example) - we are going to replace some RINO's with better Republicans.

(I don't think that is what he meant, though)

Locally I will not vote for any Democrats. They have the Bloc vote where I live and do nothing for our county.

I agree. I may even be voting for a democratic governor but I’m not sure yet. I have to do more research. I don’t particularly want the republican candidate to win. We’ll see what the research says.

If it were not for my sheriff, I'd say the same thing this year. The Democrats do have the majority in the state, the state house, state senate. Maryland is definitely blue.

Hmm.
I don't know much about the candidates there but I remember Noem's name and appreciated her work to help ensure the mortgage deduction remained in the tax plan. That was very important to me and I followed it closely.
