Maybe not scam per say but a way to get more money.

My doctor wants me to come in twice a week. One for a non stress test. One for a bio physical profile.

Why?

Because I have a cyst on my cervix. That has not gotten bigger or changed at all since it was found a few months ago. They don't know how it will affect the baby/labor so they want to monitor me.

I cannot take off work twice a week and they can't work around my schedule when I'm off work.

Finally we agreed to once a week and my boss agreed to give me Fridays off to do them. So now every appt will be on a Friday here on out which is fine since I won't work those days.

It just seems excessive to me. The baby looks good. Fluid and everything is fine. It's just about the damn cyst. And they don't even look at it!! They do an ultrasound to check the baby and then I get hooked to a monitor to check his movements and such.

Of course it always takes longer because he doesn't cooperate. He moves constantly when I'm strapped to the monitor to the point where they keep losing his heartbeat and have to adjust things to find it again. So obviously he is moving just fine which I didn't need a monitor to tell me that.

I swear I think they are doing this just for insurance money. I have really good insurance and 2 types so I rarely see a copay and they cover 100% of prenatal appointments so I think that's what they are after is the money.

My next NST I have to go to the actual hospital for so I'm going to ask the doctor there.

I would rather be checked more often than not checked enough and something happen to my baby. But that is just me

I have to go twice a week. I’d say just suck it up better safe than sorry. Their obviously worried something could happen. I like seeing my little guy is fine all the time. Thankfully I’m being induced Sunday so I only have one more appointment Thursday! Yay!

Do they pay separately for each test? Or is it bundled in one fee?

Did you look at OB and say, "I'm sorry, but can you point me to any research or case reports in which one of these cysts has led to fetal distress?"

I almost lost my 2nd child, so I don't mess around, and would likely be showing up for the tests, but it's almost like there's another reason, he doesn't want to say...kwim?

I had the stress test twice a week for 10 weeks. Dd was super active and the nurse had to fix it a lot. Her heart rate would jump all over the place. I had to have a specialist watch the test to make dd was okay. I had gestational diabetes and they needed to make sure she was safe. It was worth all the fuss to make sure she was safe.

I agree with this especially cause my 3rd as a loss. Most of the time they are thinking of your baby's best interests. That being said you can go Against Medical Advice they will just mark it in your file you denied it. But to me better to be safe then sorry. I've heard too many stories where the baby is just fine then dies suddenly in utero or was dying for a time and a non-stress could have spot the baby in distress. I would enjoy seeing my baby often on screen.
