Riley Gaines has demanded athletes boycott Adidas after the sports giant used two biological men to advertise a women's swimwear range in their Pride 2023 collection.

Adidas is the target of the latest backlash against 'woke marketing' after being accused of 'erasing women'.

lol this will probably be about as (un)impactful as the last right wing meltdown about Nike having trans models for their products

Adidas partnered with Athlete Ally. If Gaines demands a boycott of all those who partner with Athlete Ally, no one is going to have shoes to wear, beer to drink, football or basketball to watch, lol. It must be exhausting for Gaines.

People are so fragile. This has zero impact on my identity as a woman. If you have to work this hard to maintain it, maybe you need to consider why that is.

I heard about this.

This probably won’t be a popular opinion. The root of the overall problem (not just this story) is that a lot of biological women don’t want to be considered the same thing as a biological male and there needs to be some sort of compromise on this without the shaming/name calling.

As far as adidas, no strong opinion. It is their choice to market their product however they please. I don’t have a problem with it.

I don't know, man. Maybe a bathing suit doesn't really matter, maybe they do. I admit, when I heard the rumor that Dylan Mulvaney is the spokesperson for Tampax (this turned out to be false), that really bothered me. I don't want to be sold tampons by someone who has never had and never can have a period. I wouldn't want to be sold tampons by a pre-pubescent person, someone who appears to be male, or someone who hasn't had a period in 20 years, either. I think that's just common sense. Anyone can wear any bathing suit they like, so perhaps this is different. Although, I refuse to buy bathing suits or bras from companies who purport to cater to busty or curvy women if they don't use busty or curvy models. So, unless this person also had surgery to create a significant waist-to-hip ratio and has smaller shoulders, I have no reason to believe their products will be flattering on me. Then again, maybe there's a big market out there for swimsuits for MtF people and if so, why shouldn't they have products advertised to them?

I agree that I would really like to see more conversations about this without automatically calling people bigots or prejudiced.

Meh. It doesn’t bother me at all. Like there aren’t REAL problems in life, I can give such nonsense a second thought.
But seriously? After the Yeezy disaster should they be alienating people by getting PC and political right now? Or did they alienate enough progressives by giving in to accusations of antisemitism that they’re trying to pander to them and make amends?

I don’t know why you’d assume progressives would be upset at Adidas when they fired a raging anti-Semite? I know people thought they were slow to react, but are there any actual examples of progressives still being upset about it when they ultimately did the right thing in firing him over 6 months ago?

It will be Pride month in two weeks. Adidas releases Pride themed products every year for it, so it’s definitely not a 2023 “make amends” development. Here’s 2022: https://news.adidas.com/football/adidas ... 0ad1da9b12

I imagine the only reason Tampax and Dylan were in the same thought is because Dylan had a TikTok a while back where she talked about how she has started carrying tampons even though she doesn't use them just in case a female friend were in need. I thought it was cute, and a nice thought. I've honestly tried to tell my boys the same thing, whether they have girlfriends or girl friends, if they have a tampon or pad in an emergency they'll be a hero. :P
