It actually isn’t been going on for very long, at all.
Drag shows have…
But, it isn't about the drag, remember? The legislation doesn't even mention drag.
It's about raunchy sexual content, and parents have been allowing their children to view raunchy adult comedy at their discretion since at least the 70s. The comedy albums of Steve Martin, George Carlin and Richard Pryor contained humor just as inappropriate, but nobody came after parents who played those albums at home or stores that sold them to parents. Then came cable and VHS. No one brought the law down on parents when kids saw movies like Animal House and Porky's, and they almost all got over it with no ill effects.
The moral panic is because it is happening now, related to drag, when people are trying hard to stoke a culture war over the new acceptance of transgenderism.
Every political struggle is a battle for competing values, and you should be able to see that there are decent values on both sides of this argument. I can appreciate the value of wanting to protect children. Of course we do not want adults to show children porn, and there are laws about that. Instead of accusing others of wanting kids at the S*x show and practically being pedophiles, you should appreciate that values like freedom of choice and association, especially for one's children, are equally important. To have self-determination, people need the freedom even to make mistakes. Unless there is real harm coming from it, then that's their choice.
As long as you frame this as the normies vs. the perverts, you are going to perpetuate culture war and miss the chance to really understand.
