I would not love the idea of my DD wearing a string bikini. But I think at that point, age 17, the horse is already out of the barn — I have been coaching my kids for years about how clothes make huge first impressions, are billboards telling people things about us, and when choosing an outfit, we should consider our comfort but also those of the people around us, as a sign of respect. If these lessons have failed to “stick” it’s doubtful a fight on the way out the door will matter!

That close to adulthood, as long as it’s legal and does not have obscenities, what they wear is their choice.

My daughter is 18.. if she told me her plan was to meet her boyfriend’s family in a thong I would strongly encourage her to rethink that. She is old enough to make her own decision, but I’m older and have the wisdom to know save the thong for a different crowd.

Same with boys-when she brings a boy to the house they need to be appropriately dressed..
