I actually read it, downloaded it, and printed it out. Good stuff. I can't figure out Florida Dept. of Ed.'s/DeSantis' beef is with the curriculum but also not surprised that they've been vague. Whisenhunt and Crump are a formidable team and it will be interesting to see how this lawsuit pans out.

This is possibly even dumber than it initially seemed, as the portion they’re taking issue with are literally all under the banner of Unit 4: Movements and Debates.

Truly curious about what they’re supposed to do, pretend African American history ended in 1970 and that there aren’t contemporary movements, debates and ideologies to be discussed?

Wasn’t the 70’s where big changes occurred? A lot of companies put quotas on hiring. If a police force was all White they needed to hire Black police. Schools were rearranged so they weren’t all White and all Black. Things like that.

The long civil rights movement should be 8 weeks on its own.

Eyes on the Prize should be mandatory in high schools. Reading a book isn’t enough. To watch the recordings of realize in the 60s you can feel the hate burning through your TV. The twisted rage filled faces when Black children entered schools previously segregated.

I truly think some people are afraid about the uncomfortable conversations that may happen when the youth of today learn about that visceral hate of the 60s/70s and then see footage of people in their own lives (grandparents, great uncles/aunts, the old man from church or the neighborhood etc) engaging in that behavior.

Off the top of my head... White people are going to have issues teaching about "Black Power".

How so? Issues as in an inability or issues as in a personal problem/unwillingness doing so?

Both.

A lot of people aren't going to differentiate what the word power means when it comes to white power and black power. They singularly take the word to mean superior therefore wouldn't teach that any good came of a group attempt to be superior.

I know that's not what it means... But its going to take a huge educational push for a lot of adults to learn about before they'll know how to teach it.
