Candace Cameron Bure has left Hallmark channel to join Great American Family and make her well-loved Christmas movies. She talks of wanting to put religion back into Christmas movies and "keep traditional marriage at the core."

Candace, along with any actor, is certainly entitled to make the kind of movies they want to make. And networks, including Hallmark and GAF, are entitled to put out the kind of movies they want to put out.
I'm not arguing those rights at all.

But when I look at a FB post about this story, and read through the many comments from random strangers, I'm amazed at the outright bigotry displayed in the comments. People talking about how great it will be to have a network where LGBTQ couples are not "shoved down their throats" and how great it is to value what's right (as if LGBTQ couples are somehow "wrong"). One person even referred to LGBTQ individuals as "evil". Others talk about how nice it will be to not have to prescreen for fear of their children seeing something they shouldn't (as if a same-S*x couple on Hallmark is somehow pornographic). Lots of "...stand up for what is right." Lots of use of the words "pure" and "wholesome" in reference to displaying only hetero couples.
It all just gave me this sense of a whole group of people seeing LGBTQ+ individuals as 2nd class citizens and THAT is where it all goes wrong. I mean, yeah, people are allowed to have their own beliefs and such, but when those beliefs breed hatred and contempt of other individuals that's where it all goes wrong. That's where I no longer can easily support beliefs. And then celebrities come out and say things like this, and it just reinforces those beliefs of certain groups being "less than", and all the bigots and racists come out of the woodwork and have the validation that they seek for their beliefs.

I shouldn't be surprised. Logically I know you can find that kind of bigotry and hatred everywhere in society. But actually seeing it in people still shocks me.

As if Hallmark Channel isn't milquetoast enough?

She's always been a bigot. That's not a surprise. Candace Cameron Bure is the female version of Kevin Sorbo. What's surprising is there's a channel that pumps nauseating Christmas movies out there worse than Hallmark.

Simple option.... don't watch her movies she makes or those on that channel.

I don't agree with her stand on this regarding same S*x couples but I support her right to take that stand if it suits her.

As for online rhetoric about this, I've made the discovery for the past few years that social media allows for the truly ugly aspect of people to come out, no matter what position(s) they're taking.

Finally, I can't stand sappy, gooey, lovey holiday movies to begin with so I skip all of those in favor of Die Hard and Scrooged. 😁🎄

I don't like to watch LGBT movies so I don't. Problem solved. She doesn't want to act in them she doesn't have to.

I don't think expressing a preference is breeding hatred and contempt. We really need to get off that whole thing. Seriously. People have preferences and they have their own set of beliefs.

Not everyone has to like everything. That's where individually comes in. Some guys don't like brunettes. It doesn't breed hatred when they comment on preferring blondes.

I disagree completely with how she thinks, and therefore I don't watch her movies or buy anything she promotes. Just like I wouldn't even buy a drink at Chik Filet. I'm not putting money in the pockets, even if it's $2, of those I disagree with that strongly.

That's how the market speaks. If people disagree with her stance, then the station will falter. That'll be her clue that fans don't support her. But we really have to cut the nonsense about a dissenting opinion causing "hatred and contempt".

Most of the women who watch those cheesy Christmas movies she makes are straight, white, and middle/upper class women who do not relate to gay and lesbian story lines. Turning the Hallmark channel away from the traditional stories is a mistake. They should just play to their audience. That said her network will fail because what the hell channel is it? A lot of people have ditched cable and just use Netflix etc. Who will even be able to find these movies?? Are they on a streaming service?

I admit I don’t know who this person is but I don’t watch Hallmark or cheesy Christmas movies. In fact I’ll watch paint dry before I watch the Hallmark channel. I do agree it’s wrong to call the LGBTQ people evil. But the internet has more trolls than my copy of Grim’s Fairy tales and it’s easy to say crap when no one can knock your teeth out. As for me A Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart is about as sappy as I get. Or check out Epic rap battles Trump vs Ebeneezer Scrooge if you want a funny two minute retelling lol.

Interesting how someone who made their entire career off of a show about three men raising children together is so prejudiced on families who aren’t “traditional.”
