Could be anything. A Corvette, a dog, an ugly painting he had before marriage that you refuse to hang up. For me it's a kayak. He really wants one but there are just too many stories around here (beach town) of guys going out in the inlet then turning up dead in the ocean. I'm just paranoid about it.

I'm not really into that communication style. It's not how I roll.

I'm more likely to say: "If you did X, I think the impact upon me would be Y because of reasons Z. Let's discuss it. Maybe there's a way you can still have X without it causing Y, or maybe X is worth it despite Y. Convince me!"

We do not have the kind of relationship where we tell each other what we can and cannot have. If he wants something and has the money for it, he can go and get whatever he wants. Same thing the other way around. When I want something for myself, I get it. Believe it or not, I don't really care.
