Jadyn.
Jay-din or Jad-in?
This lady in the parent group in my sons university kept calling her DD Jay-din but the name is clearly phonetically spelled Jad-in. No??
How would you pronounce this name?

You pronounce names in whatever way the person chooses to be addressed.

Just by looking I’d say Jay-din until told otherwise.
And to hell with the English language then? Okie dokie!MonarchMom wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:27 am You pronounce names in whatever way the person chooses to be addressed.
In English, “dyn” makes a specific syllabication of ˈdɪn.Anonymous 1 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:34 amAnd to hell with the English language then? Okie dokie!MonarchMom wrote: ↑Sat Aug 06, 2022 11:27 am You pronounce names in whatever way the person chooses to be addressed.
You could argue between the pronoun citation of “Ja” as ˈjɑː or ˈdʒeɪ , but there isn’t really a standing argument for where the syllabic separation would be.
In English it would be assumed to be pronounced
ˈdʒeɪ ˈdɪn by most people.

Jay-din.
Not even all English words follow any set of rules. Names certainly don't.
