I never thought about this. How would you power things?

It’s going to be about 20 years before most cars are electric. Maybe turn gas stations into charging stations? Plus everyone will be able to charge at home.

There is no power.
It’ll come back, but not for a while.
You have to be able to handle that.

It’s not a matter of gas or electric, there’s nothing.

Backup generators. These are terrible polluters, but if fossil fuels were only used in emergencies, when the grid was out, that would be acceptably infrequent.

You miss the point entirely. When a town is devastated and there is no electricity how will you power and charge your electric items?

But if you bankrupt or get rid of fossil fuels? Would you have some secret storage of gas for generators? Where would it be stored? How much? How do you get it there?

I don’t mind both. I do mind eliminating one and relying completely on electric items.

I read the tweet but I guess I’m missing something. Does this town not have electricity?

We need to end dependence on fossil fuels as our main source of energy. That does not preclude keeping reserves for emergencies. We don't use kerosene as much as we used to, but a small amount is still manufactured and sold for specialty uses. Gasoline will be like that.
