I have never seen such a pointed attack from the BBC. It is awesome:

The way that Trump made wearing masks an issue to divide people is so disturbing. Where I live it’s mandatory to wear a mask when going into a store. So what. Even if doesn’t work, how hard is it keep a mask in your pocket for when it’s needed. It’s another big diversion so his base won’t see that their economic worlds are slowly disintegrating.

The irony is that much of his base doesn't want to wear masks. The virus is probably going to kill off a lot of Trump voters.

Trump was very calculated in choosing to change his mind about safety. The five states with the most cases right now will never vote for Trump. His voters are in rural states with very few cases. If his keeping these votes causes a few thousand more deaths, what does he care. He is pathologically devoid of empathy.

There is the unfortunate possibility that it's going to become much worse in rural states. It just took longer in less densely populated areas. My state is a good example. The number of cases is going up instead of down.
