The President comparing it to the flu, saying “the cure” of people staying home and off work is worse than “the problem”, which is the potential for millions of people to become ill and tens of thousands of people to die.

Millions of people come down with cold and flu every single season. Tens of thousands of people DO die from complications related to those illnesses, every single season, and we don't react this way for those. The actual death rate from this new virus is extremely low. Unless they're lying about the true fatality rate then what we're going through right now is a massive knee-jerk overreaction. To lock down the entire country would only add to the overkill.

Where did you read that this is no different than the flu?

COVID-19 is deadlier than the flu, with no vaccine or herd immunity. The death rate will be much higher without social distancing and people staying home, as more people become critically ill and overload the hospitals.

And it’s a fantasy to think the economy will be “raring to go” by Easter. Some businesses might reopen, but bar people who are idiots, who is eager to be in a crowded public place like offices, subways, restaurants with a pandemic virus that’s not at all under control underway?

What do you consider a low death rate?

I suggest you take a look around the rest of the world to see how the virus progresses... even with drastic protective measures in place.

In Spain right now, people are dying faster than they can be buried. Madrid is currently using a skating rink as a morgue ...

It’s a really interesting story - Quebec separatists, the FLQ, were escalating bombings in the Montreal area. They eventually kidnapped the Deputy Premier and a British diplomat, killing the Deputy Premier. The Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau (father of current PM Justin) invoked the War Measures Act, the only peacetime use of it.

Thanks for responding to that so clearly. I was actually born in Montreal.
Didn’t England come in and try to force everyone to speak English?
When?

And why? Why would the UK attempt to dictate how another country lives? Especially when you consider that English is not the only language spoken (Gaelic, Welsh ...) within the UK ..

It had nothing to do with England at all.
