“If we cannot deliver a modern medical record for the men and women who put their lives on the line for us sooner than that, it is impossible to think that we could or should deliver one in a month for those who knowingly enter our country illegally,” Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-TN) said in a press release. “We should not treat anyone, particularly someone who breaks our laws, better than we treat our heroes.”

House Republicans proposed an amendment to implement the same rollout of medical records system standards for veterans, but the effort was struck down, according to Rep. Tim Burchett.
It may not be a big deal to some of you all, but to a disabled veteran who has to maintain their own records, bring in records to new providers (we're not talking a mere few pieces of paper here) - it's a huge slap in the face. But hey... Illegals don't get better treatment than our legal citizens, right?

What a slap in the face to veterans. Hopefully the the senate will do their job and kill this bill DOA.

I think it's important for those in DHS custody to have electronic access to their medical records. It's also important for Veterans and State Dept. personnel to have similar access. Gosh knows I was sick of transporting a file box of our family's medical records back and forth across the pond. Implementing an electronic record system for those in DHS custody is a much smaller initiative than Veterans or State medical records and an electronic system for Veterans is in the works. I don't agree that "I should get mine before you get yours."

Taxpayer funds should be spend on those who are in this country legally before one red cent goes toward losers who think they're above going through the proper channels to become citizens of this country. If you have not sworn allegiance to this country in a naturalization ceremony, then you don't deserve bumpkus, period.

It's common sense. Illegal border crossers should not get access medical records faster than the men and women who fought for our country. Those kind of BENEFITS should be given to citizens, vets, and homeless FIRST.

This is wrong on all levels. I'm not surprised though. There seems to be no end to the outpouring for people who think they can be here without doing it legally. Citizens absolutely should come first.

The VA has an electronic medical record that connects to all VA providers. It was one of the first healthcare systems to get that, actually.
