Alexander Acosta while working as a US attorney in Florida helped to broker a 2008 plea deal with billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, who was facing S*x trafficking allegations.

Under the terms of the deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to two charges of felony prostitution and spent 13 months in prison. He was released daily to spend time in his office.

Epstein's alleged victims were not told about the deal, which a Florida judge in 2017 ruled illegal.
Epstein was arrested on Sunday on charges of S*x trafficking, reigniting scrutiny of his past.

Acosta is facing calls to resign for his role in the deal.

He should resign. Instead he's backtracking on twitter and Kellyanne is supporting him. The deal that Acosta made with the devil is completely unprecedented and extremely suspicious. No amount of 'splaining will absolve Acosta.

Trump feels "very badly" for Acosta? How about the victims!

Also, Barr now not recusing himself. Sigh.

And all of these people are close to Trump.
Bad sign.

By reducing the charges to "S*x with a prostitute", Acosta turned the victims into S*x workers. Young girls violated, raped & sold to the highest bidder had their lives destroyed not only by their rapist, but by the very agency/prosecutor who was there to get them justice. He also did NOT inform them of the plea deal at any point. They were never allowed to fight against it or defend themselves as the victims instead of as S*x workers.

And yet, the man in the White House feels bad for Acosta, but nothing for the actual victims. No sympathy, no care, no concern, probably doesn't even consider the young girls victims.

Can't wait to see his "base" justify those steps taken & lack of sympathy for young girls who were rape/trafficking victims & watch them defend the choice for a cabinet position.

The party of family values strikes again.

And now he plans to make child S*x trafficking much easier for the rich & powerful. Just like he helped them get sweetheart plea deals without informing the victims.

Acosta’s plan to slash funding of a critical federal agency in the fight against the sexual exploitation of children is contained in his financial plans for the Department of Labor for fiscal year 2020. In it, he proposes decimating the resources of a section of his own department known as the International Labor Affairs Bureau (ILAB).

The bureau’s budget would fall from $68m last year to just $18.5m. The proposed reduction is so drastic that experts say it would effectively kill off many federal efforts to curb S*x trafficking and put the lives of large numbers of children at risk.

ILAB has the task of countering human trafficking, child labor and forced labor across the US and around the world. Its mission is “to promote a fair global playing field for workers” and it is seen as a crucial leader in efforts to crack down on the S*x trafficking of minors.

Katherine Clark, a congresswoman from Massachusetts, said Acosta’s proposed cut was “reckless” and “amoral”. When seen alongside the sweetheart plea deal he granted Epstein in 2008, when Acosta was the US attorney in Miami, she said, it indicated that the labor secretary did not see protecting vulnerable children as a priority.
