The school told the kid that he could call his mom. He chose not to.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with the hairstyle but it went against the dress code. It was most likely in the handbook that the parents and/or the boy signed. Save those hairstyles for the summer if your school doesn’t allow it.

I swear schools have gone off the deep end in the US. Here during hockey playoffs you see boys and even some girls with their hair shaved and logos of the teams carved in, hair tattoos, red/blue hair, red/black hair, gold/black hair, and bleached hair. All the teachers and school does is wish the boys/girls luck in the playoffs

Too much. I'd be mad. He should have been allowed to continue his day, with a phone call to his parents instructing them that THEY violated dress code and THEY need to fix his hair before he is allowed back in school.

I'd be upset that using a marker was even an option. Yet I wouldn't blast it on social media - I'd direct my anger appropriately towards:
A) myself for allowing the haircut knowing it violated dress code policy
B) my son for selecting the option to color it on with marker instead of calling me or the in school suspension
C) the assistant principal for giving those options to my underage student and allowing him to select an option
I would have escalated C up to the principal and administration offices.
Do I think the assistant principal should be fired? No. He's not the one who used the marker. But he should have some form of disciplinary action.
