Not quite. Amazon collects around 6 billion a year on prime memberships. Memberships are not taxable. One of those benefits is free shipping. They spend roughly a billion a quarter on shipping. Shipping costs are tax deductable. They don't need to add that cost to product price. You do the rest of the math.

I try to avoid shopping online as well. Here in the sticks now and then I have to. Mostly for bird stuff. I have a two hour drive to go to a place that carries much for large birds.
How is it unfair? They have a better business model. Aside from Trump’s tax breaks, what isn’t fair?
You might not like the idea, but I don’t think anything is unfair about the situation. Netflix put Blockbuster out of business. They provided a more convenient service at a better price, so they got enough business. Blockbuster failed to stay competitive, move fast enough, and figure out what people want. That’s the way it is, that’s how things move forward.

The best department stores and even smaller stores that people have loved for many decades are going out of business because people are shopping at Amazon and others.SolidlyAverage wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:35 pmHow is it unfair? And yes, we loved to rent movies at Blockbuster
(Think of all the employees who will lose their jobs .)
I think it’s unfair.
What is unfair, though? That’s what I’m asking. You don’t like that brick and mortar stores are going under, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t “fair.” It’s a shame, maybeLibbylu2 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:38 pmThe best department stores and even smaller stores that people have loved for many decades are going out of business because people are shopping at Amazon and others.SolidlyAverage wrote: ↑Fri Mar 08, 2019 6:35 pmHow is it unfair? Abdvyes, we lived to rent movies at Blockbuster
I think it’s unfair.
Saying it’s unfair implies that one company has some benefit that the other doesn’t. Having a better business isn’t unfair, it’s perfectly fair and one company just did a better job.
So what isn’t “fair” about the situation?
