The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the senior citizens were told they could still go vote in a van provided by the senior center, but the center's administration eventually concluded it was close to lunch time and the group could vote another day.

The bus they tried to use isn’t allowed because it was considered a political activity. They can still go vote.
And the point of the article was it was stupid to stop the bus. It’s stupid that they have to take a van instead. Petty people. Someone is always trying to prevent someone from voting down south. Still.
No. The point of the article is to convince people that the big bad racists denied old black folk their right to vote because the white man.

Jefferson County Administrator Adam Brett told the AJC that the county considered the transporting of the group to be “political activity,” which would violate county policy, since they operate they senior center.

“Jefferson County administration felt uncomfortable with allowing senior center patrons to leave the facility in a bus with an unknown third party,” Brett said. “No seniors at the Jefferson County senior center were denied their right to vote.”

Besides violating policy, the admin who is responsible for these seniors didn't feel comfortable letting them go. They are responsible for their safety, are they not? They took them in the center's vehicle instead. There's probably a lot of insurance and details involved with this.
I still think it's backtracking and trying to justify not allowing the bus to carry the seniors around the corner. The senior center itself asked the bus to stop there and transport their seniors. The clerk, on an anonymous tip, initially said that they were asked to disembark because it was a political activity and now they are adding on liability issues? These seniors are free to come and go as they please, it is not a residential facility. And, one of the seniors who was initially on the bus, got off, got into her own car, and drove to the voting site.

I was just reading an article about the racists posts and memes that the Mayor of Bartow (also in Jefferson County) has posted on his facebook. I can imagine why the administration in rural parts of Jefferson County would want to suppress the black vote and I can equally imagine why black voters could feel intimidated.

It's a shame but I think that if nothing else, it strengthened the resolve of these seniors, and many others, to vote which ultimately is a good thing as this is generally a demographic that has low voter turnout.

It’s probably true.
There has been an increase in racism in political groups, individuals, in social media , online groups in the last decade.
White Supremacy, White Nationals, Aryan Nation, more branches of the KKK. They’re getting more vocal and bold.
It might be hard to think about it or to admit, but it's a reality and I’m ashamed of those groups I just listed.

Then maybe they should have left them alone and let them go vote. It was a petty thing to do and it probably was a racist. There are no shortage of them.

Yes. Of course it makes complete sense that all these old black people would voluntarily live in a center run by a racist.

The people who run the center asked for the Black Vote Matters bus to come. It was the town clerk who shut it down. The seniors don't live at the center. They come from 9:00-2:00 three days a week for activities. They come freely and they are free to leave when they choose.
