Would you let your 15 year old go abroad? What about to NYC?

With a school trip, sure. We lived in NYC for several years, thousands of teenagers come through on field trips every day. They’re shepherded around all the major tourist sites and museums, it’s really a low risk trip and a very good experience. You know your child, if she had a history of sneaking out, disobeying teachers, etc. I probably wouldn’t send her because it would be a safety risk. But, if by immature you just mean not always being the most responsible or self sufficient, I’d send her. It can be a good chance to grow.

I wouldn't say he was "alone", though - it was a school trip, so there were teachers there too.

Yes, if it was school sponsored trip. They typically have safety measure in place.
