My sons found him creepy. By then they were old enough to know it was a doll. I mean that's my question. They first saw it at Barnes and noble in a box. So I'd imagine unless the kid is three they're not stupid and know it's just a doll.

My teenagers are finally done with the elf. I gave it to my one year old to just play with. I'm not starting that again.

I'm a mom and I think that 'elf on the shelf' is F***ing stupid and creepy. I wouldn't do it either. Hell, I even refused to do that F***ing Flat Stanley thing that the kid's 1st-grade teacher sent home.

A few years ago my kids whined about getting one. The conversation went something like this:

Kid: I wish WE had an Elf on the Shelf
Me: What makes you thing we don't?
Kid: I don't see one like all my friends have.
Me: Those are the stupid ones that always get caught. Ours has better ninja skills so it doesn't get caught.

Haven't heard another word about it.
