Aleppo is hell on earth. The freezing downpours and frigid snow had already began. People are living in tents. Syria won’t give aid to the area because of an unending conflict.

A lot of countries have publicly offered support to Turkey and are silent on Syria. Qatar, whose government just paid Beyoncé $24 million to sing some songs offered peanuts in assistance.

Muslim countries need to start helping their less fortunate brothers.

European countries sending aid only to Turkey. Yes someArab countries are helping but Qatar’s offer was insulting given the money the country has. Biden didn’t mention Syria either but I can’t imagine our country ignoring a country as bad off as them. People can hear their families stuck underground

When Syria gives in and friends Israel, the US will send aid. Until then...

US provided over $800 million in humanitarian aid to Syria in 2022. They have promised to provide aid to Syria after this earthquake through their partnerships which generally means USAID/NGO partnerships.

Israel claims that they received a request for aid from Syria and it was approved. Syria is denying that request was given and refusing aid from Israel.

Providing aid is going to be difficult as there is only a small border crossing with Turkey where one can enter. Not to mention the fact that the area in Syria most affected is rebel held so if aid is given to Assad, how will it be used?

They shouldn’t give aid directly to Assad but use independent agencies that countries can contribute.

From Al Jezeera

“European Union
Ten search-and-rescue teams from eight European Union countries have been mobilised to help first responders in Turkey, the European Commission said in a statement.

The units come from Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Poland and Romania. Italy and Hungary have also offered to send teams to Turkey, the Commission wrote.”

Greece

Kyriakos Mitsotakis, prime minister of Greece, offered condolences and support to Turkey. Mitsotakis telephoned President Erdogan offering “immediate assistance”.”

Iran

Hailing Iran’s “good relationship” with both countries, Kanaani said, “If there is a need for the presence of relief and health institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the earthquake-affected areas, we will fulfil our moral responsibility.”

NATO

“Voicing full solidarity with Turkey, NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said on Twitter: “I am in touch with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, and NATO Allies are mobilizing support now.””

UAE supports Syria with $13.6 millions in aid.

UNITED STATES

US President Joe Biden said his administration has been working closely with Turkey, authorising an immediate Washington response to the devastating quake.

The United States is sending two, 79-person search-and-rescue teams to assist Turkish authorities.”

Let’s hope the neediest are made priority no matter who is providing the money. Asaad is such a psychopath but that’s not a reason to ignore Syrian victims.

From AP

— The United States is coordinating immediate assistance to NATO-member Turkey, including teams to support search and rescue efforts. U.S.-supported humanitarian partners are also responding to the destruction in Syria. In California, nearly 100 Los Angeles County firefighters and structural engineers, along with a half-dozen specially trained dogs, were being sent to Turkey to help with rescue efforts.

Not true. Both the US and Israel are sending aid to Syria.

https://apnews.com/article/turkey-syria ... 77e85fc1c3

“U.S.-supported humanitarian partners are also responding to the destruction in Syria”.
“Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he has also approved a request for humanitarian aid for Syria, received through a diplomatic official”.

And also the EU: “The EU said it’s also ready to offer help to Syria through its humanitarian assistance programs.”

But yes, there are other issues involved. That’s reality. First, Turkey is a member of NATO, Syria left in 2019. So obviously other NATO member countries focus aid on fellow members because they are bound to do so. Second, Syria is considered a hostile country by the western world and amongst his allies are terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and the PFLP-GC.
And even then, countries that have been victims of terrorism by Syria and these allies are offering help. Let’s see if they accept it…

"Almost one week after the devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck northern Syria and neighboring Turkey, the U.N. has acknowledged an international failure to help Syrian quake victims."

"Syrians were doing what they have honed over years of crises: relying on themselves to pick up the pieces and move on.

“We are licking our own wounds,” said Hekmat Hamoud, who had been displaced twice by Syria’s ongoing conflict, before finding himself trapped for hours beneath rubble."
