My dd and her friend went up to their school to run laps. I drove up to the school to pick up dd because she tripped and scraped her knee up pretty bad. I offered the other girl a ride home or to wait for her mom. I have given this kid a ride multiple times. She said she was just going to run home. It isn’t far and the girls have both done it alone several times
Instead, the girl went to her boyfriends house. The mom is saying I should have insisted on driving her home. This kid is 17. I didn’t even know she had a boyfriend that lived close by. Not to mention, the girls met up halfway between our houses so it isn’t like I was taking responsibility for this girl.
How is this even my fault??
How do *you* essentially force a 17-year old to get into your car? Has the Mom of this other girl explained that?
You're not at fault.

Unless specified by their parent, I would never assume that I am responsible for arranging transport for someone who will be an adult in a year. If it was leaving her in an unsafe situation, sure, but if she says she’s good getting herself home from the high school track, I’d leave her be. But, the mother might just be frustrated with the situation and is misdirecting her anger because she needs someone to lash out at. I wouldn’t take it personally.

Maybe SHE should have taught her daughter better
That’s her fault, not yours.
