We, collectively, America. This country has chosen to accept acts of public violence as evidenced by the fact that we, collectively, in general, refuse to do anything to address it. That's a choice, either through our vote or our prioritization of certain amendments. Obviously not ME specifically making a specific choice to do this, but our political leaders and representatives who make the laws and policies for our country have decided that this is just the price of "freedom".
Stop being obtuse.
I’m not the one being obtuse here…
Every single person in America has done something to address it …whether that means trying to ban guns, trying to keep themselves armed at all times, trying to keep guns out of schools, trying to keep armed guards in schools, trying to increase mental health availability , trying to decrease bullying, trying to teach their kids how to hide, trying to teach their kids how to fight…. We might not all agree on how to go about it, and we might be in totally different corners when it comes to our belief on how to stop it… but we’re all trying.
You Decided to blame the innocent for the crimes of the guilty… perhaps that makes you feel as though you’re doing something about it too… but it’s not helpful… it will only divide further.
No, we as Americans, as a collective group, have essentially chosen to accept this because nothing is accomplished to stop it. You say "we might not all agree" and "we might be in totally different corners", well that is precisely why NOTHING has happened to end these mass shootings. As a whole, we've agreed that freedom is more important than safety and therefore have accepted this as our life.
People try to talk about guns and gun control but then others go off about "oh no, second amendment, and guns don't kill people, people kill people" and then nothing happens with gun control. So then it's like ok, let's talk about people and hate speech and how certain religious beliefs breed a hate of a certain group of people, but then it's countered with "oh no, freedom of religion, people are allowed to believe what they want to believe". And then nothing is done about these beliefs at the core of the hatred.
How long do we have to go back and forth before something is done? How many avenues of trying to fix things are going to be blocked by "but freedoms!". Freedoms end where safety begins. When are we, the collective Americans, going to start figuring that out?
Nothing that YOU wanted to happen may have occurred,
But LOTS of changes have happened since mass shootings have become popular.
More armed guards everywhere including schools,
More metal detectors at venues and schools,
More mental health availability,
More searches at theme parks and concerts,
More people carrying concealed,
More locking down doors,
More security cameras everywhere,
More FBI assigned to online monitoring,
We’ve all been trying.
