NY was a "may issue" which generally means no. So now they will likely become a "shall issue" state, assuming the applicant has no record that would justify a denial.SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 9:15 pmI don’t like open carry either.Carpy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 8:52 pmI believe this decision regards conceal carry permits. Oh..so this wasn’t a “win”…. it was a “f**k you” to state rights that doesn’t go along with a certain political agenda.
Open carry has facilitated a lot of irresponsible behavior into the southern gun culture for no reason and a lot of areas aren’t nearly as populated as NYC.
Getting on the subway and navigating through downtown Manhattan was overwhelming enough for my country ass without seeing someone openly carrying a gun. I don’t blame y’all one bit for being upset about this.
Oh okay, what about the concealed carry permits if you don’t mind me asking?
I don’t know anything about the gun laws there.

Granted, it’s not so bad if it’s the wide open country or a smaller city with a low population…but NYC is densely populated. It doesn’t bother me to see people toting hunting rifles on my way to the Piggly Wiggly but I’m not getting on a packed NY subway with that many people who can carry a gun in public for no reason.
I understand why some think it’s too strict but I can see why they probably need to be.

I doubt NY would allow open carry, so you would never know. Open carry is stupid. It ensure you will be the first target.SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:43 pmThanks for explaining.Carpy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:05 amNY was a "may issue" which generally means no. It’s not just for NYC, it’s the whole state. From what I understand to get a concealed carry permit you must prove your life is in danger when you leave your house and need protection. So basically very hard to get. If you have the $$$$ you can hire security. If you don’t, you’re pretty much SOL.SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 8:43 pmThanks for explaining.Carpy wrote: ↑Sun Jun 26, 2022 5:05 amNY was a "may issue" which generally means no. Yeah, state laws would apply to the whole state so I get that but I still see why NY is strict about it.DSamuels wrote: ↑Mon Jun 27, 2022 2:31 pmIt’s not just for NYC, it’s the whole state. I don't think NY would allow open carry. With a permit it would have to be concealed.SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 9:15 pmI don’t like open carry either.Carpy wrote: ↑Sat Jun 25, 2022 8:52 pmI believe this decision regards conceal carry permits. "Adding to the complexity is the fact that New York City has different gun laws than New York state. Knowing the unique rules of New York City and New York state can help gun owners understand their legal rights and obligations.
The attorneys at Brill Legal Group, P.C., are knowledgeable in the gun laws of New York City and New York state. We can help you understand your rights and protect those rights if you are facing charges for a gun crime in New York.
In New York City, rifles, shotguns and handguns require a permit to purchase. Additionally, owners must be licensed and have a permit to carry. In New York state, only handguns are subject to such requirements. While permits are not required for rifles and shotguns used for hunting in most parts of New York state, New York City does require a permit for hunting guns.
New York has no reciprocal agreements with other states, which means gun permits issued by other states are not recognized.
Our experienced attorneys can help you navigate the complexities of various gun regulations of which you may not be aware."
