What are they doing this summer? DD was supposed to have an internship at a hotel (she wants to go into hospitality, and that is what her major is), but it got cancelled due to covid. We are in a hotspot, so she doesn't feel comfortable working or volunteering at this time. Need some ideas that she can do remotely!

What is she interested in? There wouldn't be anything wrong with her taking some time off.

The hospitality industry probably isn't going to be a good source of jobs for the next few years. Your daughter could spend the time exploring other career options.

She enjoys coding. She looked into doing it for a relief organization to help with covid, but they all require a year of professional experience. Her only experience is taking classes.

She doesn’t like to just sit around and twiddle her thumbs. She enjoys doing things and being active.

She can’t change her major at this point without having to stay an extra year. We don’t have the money for that. She will be fine. Her major is broad enough that she has a lot of options, and it is what she wants to do.

It's good she has options. The pandemic has caused problems for so many college students.

Absolutely. It’s very unfortunate. She’s lucky that her major is broad, and hospitality is a specialization.

Mine looked into taking classes, but her school is barely offering any over the summer, and the tuition is sky-high. She is ahead on all her requirements, so she doesn't need to take one. She may do a free one through one of those websites though, not that it'll count for anything tangible or give her college-applicable credits, but at least it'll give her something to do.

Mine was sitting around. That got old quick. He went up to NJ and is now working pouring concrete with my BIL and nephew. He's making great money thank goodness. He moves into his off campus apartment Aug 19 so he will come home sometime beginning of August.
