Anyone NOT under a shelter in place or stay home order?

I'm really glad to hear that your DH is doing well. I'm sure all this is particularly scary for h and your entire family. Stay safe and healthy.

For what it's worth, I think your son made a wise choice to take a leave of absence at this time. I'm not sure what state you are in. I'm surprised the Goodwill store is even still open. Makes me wonder if my local one is open, too.

Best wishes to you and your entire family. Stay strong. :)

There are so very many who I am incredibly proud of during all of this horrible time, and National Guard is among them. My thank you to both her friend's for being there....or about to be...for all of us! :)

I get his point...Ducey's...yet at the same time, I have strong concerns as well. Dr. Cara Christ who is the director of the ADHS stated only a day ago or so that Arizona has not seen its "peak" yet and we could still be about 3 to 5 weeks out from that with May being potentially another peak of hospitalizations.

Very alarming and scary but I want that realistic approach so we all know what to do and what to expect. I do not want pipe dreams and unrealistic goals.

Less than a day ago, Ducey put forth the following EO for hospital preparedness (and which I fully support him on): https://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/gov- ... cases-grow

We're getting ready for the big hit. :(
Hadn’t meant to go anon, I didn’t realize I had even tapped it until I read your reply, lol.

I had seen that he had done that EO. While I think it would have been better to do this sooner, at least we haven’t hit desperate shortages before he did the executive order, hopefully it’s still early enough for hospitals to get fully prepared.

We need that realistic approach. Not to create panic, but straight forward reality that’s clear.
I think there are other EO's he might need to undertake including, again, shelter in place. However, he was interviewed by a reporter today from ABC15 news about it and he still states that essentially, he won't be doing so at this time. :/

Our son who works in retail for a local Goodwill has taken an approved LOA and because he's afraid given the amount of people who still show up to shop, at least at the GW he works at, he could bring something home to his father and myself. My husband is a heart patient who was diagnosed with congestive heart failure a year and a half ago. While tests now show he is no longer in failure, his heart is still not at 100%. Combine that with COPD, and it's particularly scary at this time. He's doing very well and we're keeping a very close eye on him...his vitals, including his pulse ox are taken a few times a day as usual as is his temperature. He's also a Type 2 diabetic though honestly, his pcp believes he may no longer be given his A1c and daily blood checks being so good.

Anyway, I respect our son's position though I know it was a very hard one to make and something he struggled with this week. Luckily his store manager and the HR department completely agreed with him and have told him he has a job when the time comes.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to gave police presence in grocery store/supply stores parking lots.

Stay safe and be extra vigilant. People are going nuts out there.

Here we've had cars broken into, and thieves stealing toilet paper and cleaning supplies. Which is nuts.
Our grocery store has had a cop there for the last couple of weeks.
It's getting crazy out there. Saw a security guy at our local Target yesterday.

I can understand wanting and willing to volunteer but choosing not to. I also don’t blame him for wanting to make sure your safe. These are such uncertain times.
I am one of those "sign up for everything" types so this is driving me nuts. I am also irritated that my union made no provision for those who could not work this day camp unless it was for very specific medical reasons for themselves. And even then, the union president and HR are trying to force those with those reasons to work. The union president is a martyr and expects everyone else to be as well. And honestly, if it were just me I would work the day camp and deal with the consequences. But it isn't about me. This virus would likely kill my relatively young husband and I will not make him ill for the sake of others.

There have been a few. And a marked increase in armed robberies in stores and restaurants. My husband just sits in the car and steps out as I am coming out to make his presence known. He's a big guy and although not really intimidating personality wise, people don't know that from just seeing him lol!

Unfortunately, I don’t think we’ll see Ducey issue a shelter in place unless city/town officials do not by the time it escalates.

I respect your son’s decision too. That had to be a very hard decision and it’s even harder when the consequences could be negative even though it’s the right decision. I’m so glad they are giving him a loa. Dh works for an aerospace company. They are contracted with the military and also private contracts to clean and repair engines and engine components. They are providing them gloves and masks, changed breaks so only 2 are on break at a time, if anyone even has the sniffles they are sent home, they have changed some work procedures to physical distance like only 1 person at each area at a time.

That’s great about the diabetes with your Dh, I hope it continues to stay that way and that he continues to do well after the heart failure. Have any of his drs advised using a mask, not specifically now, but in general. Lung disease runs in my family, my aunt has CF, my mom has COPD from chronic bronchitis and asthma. I’m asthmatic, was diagnosed with COPD from chronic lung infections but was re-diagnosed as asthmatic with bronchiectasis. When I switched pulmonologists about 8 or so years ago, it was the first thing he recommended to do during flu season and AQ advisory days. If he hasn’t, I’d recommend it. I prefer Cambridge, I just did a pre-order, the size I need is on preorders, they only have certain sizes available right now, because I sent my parents and aunt my extras. While I know this may not be immediately helpful under the current situation, it may in the future. Stay safe!!!
We are now at 14/15 AZ counties with positive Covid cases and while some new restrictions have been put in place, no, I am starting to suspect we may not see a shelter in place here. I really believe we should though.

Our son's stress about this has been washed away and I am happy too, that they're working with him. While he did glove up and wear a mask, he still had reservations.

Your husband's company that he works for is doing 100% the right things. I wish more companies...all of them, in fact...would do the same things.

I will look into Cambridge masks. We DO have surgical masks which I purchased only a few days after Dh got out of the hospital in 2018. I did this because he was initially seeing all of his specialists and new primary care doctor along with a transitional doctor (the doctor he saw the first few weeks after he got out of the hospital) so often and it was flu season. We purchased all kinds of things for home...a BP meter, blood sugar meter, pulse ox, and he still has the oxygen machine (recycled room air) that they sent him home with. So in that regard, I suppose we are lucky to have these things here at home.

A few weeks ago, our youngest Dd and I bought a box of sterile gloves to have in the event we went anywhere which is very, very rare and will be for us this coming month.

Thank you so much for this great conversation. :)

Thank you so much for your comments. :)

It is scary with him but we're keeping a very, very close eye on him. He's got allergies right now, which is typical for him this time of year, but every cough or sneeze has had our youngest Dd panicking. He's gotten the all clear from his primary care doctor as far as no Covid symptoms along with another medical professional. He's been in the home now, what will be 20 days in SQ, if I am doing the math correctly.

We are in AZ and at the present time, while there are some new restrictions in place, we currently do not have a shelter in place order. Like you, we were all surprised that Goodwill here was still open. It's not an essential business. Even more surprising, our son has said, is the amount of shoppers that are still donating and shopping like nothing is going on in the world.

Thank you again, and the very best wishes to you and your family as well! :)

Maryland is now under a shelter in place order effective as of 8pm tonight. I figured it was coming sooner or later.

An announcement will be coming from our governor at 2:00pm today. I have a feeling it will be a shelter in place order.

You must be so relieved that his doctor says he shows no Covid-19 symptoms. I can't even imagine how stressful things must be for you right now. Sending calming vibes your way and ones filled with lots of strength for him (and you...and your family) to continue to ward off this darn thing. HUG to you.

I just read an article about one of our local Goodwill stores. While our state has been told that no non-life sustaining businesses may be open, people are still dropping donations at the back of the Goodwill Store (parking lot). It looks like a dump! I would imagine that as many people as there are dropping things off, there's an equal number of people TAKING THINGS. I really wish that everyone who is supposed to be staying home would just obey the order and do that. I have to tell you, though, every time I hear someone say that their hospital (or themselves) doesn't have some of the PPE that they need, I think of my local Goodwill Store. The last time I was there, they had THREE 9 foot shelves filled with BOXES of NEW disposal healthcare "clothing" (I can't think of the proper term for it right now. LOL But it's the top, pants, hat, and booties that you often see healthcare workers wearing.) It's driving me nuts that I know that stuff is there and that someone could probably use it! Just had to tell you that story.

But anyway...Stay safe and healthy AZLizardLady. And lots of strength to both you and your DH!

In Ontario, we are under a physical distancing order meaning no more than five people can gather in one space where they can't stay six feet apart, not including members of the same household. But, if you have just returned to Canada or have tested positive for COVID-19, by law, we are ordered to self isolate for 14 straight days.
