Right? My household worked hard to get to where we are. Years of schooling and time spent at work. Why should we have to give money to Jane Doe who got a useless degree and can’t work. Or Joe Blow who who gets fired brunisses don’t like him. Or neighbors who have more kids then they can actually afford? We have made sacrifices to get to where we are and we’re very comfortable now.DSamuels wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 3:26 pmI’m not against equality, are you? Conservatives don’t hate “socialism “, they hate equality

What you just wrote has absolutely nothing to do with socialism. In the United States if your neighbors had too many kids then we would provide food stamps and subsidized housing. Joe Blow would get unemployment insurance paid by his employer and Jan Doe might qualify for different types of assistance. All with tax dollars. So what do you think would change?hockeymom87 wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2019 4:03 pmRight? My household worked hard to get to where we are. Years of schooling and time spent at work. In a country like Norway Joe Blow would have contributed his previous income to his own unemployment insurance. Jane Doe could make a living working at a coffee shop in the Netherlands because the minimum wage is high enough to cover cost of living there.
George Lakey, an American sociologist wrote in an article;
We have to get out of this mindset that we are the greatest country and that a failed real estate builder and a man who failed at every other business he tried can "make America great again"From an economic point of view, the Nordic model focuses on economic security, efficiency, and productivity and believes they are connected. Lakey contrasts this to the U.S. economy model based on insecurity, high unemployment, and fear of poverty and hunger.
Lakey contests the misconception that high taxes and regulation in the Nordic countries stifle business and entrepreneurship. Productivity rates are considerably higher, even with a shorter workweek. And the rate of start-up companies in Norway and Denmark is considerably higher than the U.S. Researchers from the U.S. found that Nordic entrepreneurs are greater risk-takers because they don’t worry about education debt, retirement, and medical care, thanks to universal services.
Nordic businesses compete in the global economy, including importing, exporting, and outsourcing. But they are discouraged, through laws and social contracts, from cutting wages as part of their competitive strategy.

The author you link (and this seems to be the only article anyone uses ) claims:
. That is NOT what Bernie or anyone is thinking. No one is talking about taking businesses away from owners.The myth of Nordic socialism is partially created by a confusion between socialism, meaning government exerting control or ownership of businesses
Forbes article:
First, it is worth noting that the Nordic counties were economic successes before they built their welfare states. Those productive economies, generating good incomes for their workers, allowed the governments to raise the tax revenue needed to pay for the social benefits. It was not the government benefits that created wealth, but wealth that allowed the luxury of such generous government programs.
Nordic countries had the same economic success that we have currently. We are dangerously close to having a wealth gap that cannot be sustained. This is what was happening in these countries and the people demanded changes. And they did build a productive economy, livable wages for all with tax revenue paying for social benefits that the whole country benefited from. So why can't we do the same?
