I am probably going to get fired from my job because they cancelled school in the middle of the night

There was a security threat and they cancelled school everywhere around me. I didnt even see the email this morning until 6 am because it was sent out after midnight.

I tried to call everyone I could think of to see if they could watch my kids. No one can. Usually I would be able to rely on my mother or sister but they are both out of town for a funeral. My best friend is sick as a dog with the flu. Basically its just the worst timing

I just started this new job but I am on my probationary period. I dont even know what I am going to do. I left my last job to move to this one because it worked out so much better. Now I think I am just going to be fucked

I only have about 3 months of money to get by in savings. I could hopefully find a new job in that time. I am just freaking out. I understand it was a safety issue at school but it just really fucks everything over. My boss was not happy when I told her and we will have a meeting tomorrow

Just needed to vent

I am sorry girl. Normally I would say you should have a village to help you in times like this but it sounds like normally you do. Just bad luck that they are all either out of town or sick themselves. Bummer.

Can you think of anyone else? A neighbor? Someone from church? A mom of one of your kid's friends? You may not know them that well but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

How old are the kids? It's not the best situation but mine could be left at home alone from eight on up. I would go home at lunch to make sure he was all right. This was if he was sick. And usually if school was cancelled the after school programs he was in would take up the slack for me. In dire straits I had a retired friend I could ask but fortunately I never had to.

My guess is that she lives in Colorado and all of the schools in one county are closed due to some chick obsessed with Columbine. I would hazard a guess that her kid(s) are young which is why this is a problem. I would not feel comfortable leaving kids home alone with some nutjob with a gun on the run from the cops..

I mean, if it is the Columbine related thing, I would think that people there would understand that dilemma. Good luck!

Its hard to understand when just hours before they said our school district was not in danger.

I'm 1.5 hours from where the threat was

I would just call them and ask if an exception can be made in this case.

Oh that nut? I heard about her. In my day my kids would go to a church afterschool program they were part of. But in spite of threats usually we don't cancel school. After Sandy Hook they redid our schools so that adults must be buzzed in and they go straight to the office to be IDed. You can't go anywhere else because all doors out of the office into school are locked. The high school it's like one has to be Jesus to get out of the office onto campus without an escort. Also after Parkland I think if someone so much as showed up with a water pistol someone else would call it in. We might have half the police force on campus but school would still go on. But if the town cancelled school and the after school programs followed suit as well then yeah I'd be scrambling. Most of my friends work and I hate asking my retired friend because she has no kids herself, never has. I mean if all the schools closed her boss may have to suck it up...certainly lots of people are in her position.
