I mean, that is typically how someone gets indoctrinated into becoming a terrorist. Desperate people who feel they have nothing and want to become a part of something.

You are correct. Also, contrary to popular belief, young Muslim men who get indoctrinated into jihadist groups do not have strong faith or any academic knowledge of Islam making them easy targets to manipulate. The same can be said for some very fundamental and fanatical Christian groups.
