AZOldGal66 wrote: Sun May 05, 2024 7:45 pm It's abundantly and tragically apparent that an "uprising" in Iran is viewed differently than here in the U.S.

Any current United States students who are considering the offer of attending a university there and have been a part of the protests here should take this into account.
We, general US Americans, have both an under appreciation of our freedom of speech and an over entitlement of our freedom of speech.
An "over entitlement"?
Absolutely over entitlement. Freedom of speech isn’t absolute without consequences. These consequences may be legal consequences or natural consequences.

Since there are consequences, i find it difficult to look at that as an over entitlement.

But I'm still the winner! They lied! They cheated! They stole the election!

Has a lost defamation case as well as multiple fines for violating gag orders changed the level of entitlement Trump has shown over free speech? He’s even ranted over being censored when he violated social media platforms ToS. Have consequences changed kids bullying other kids? While hate speech is protected, when it’s used as evidence relating to other crimes: vandalism, physical assault, murder, attempted murder it elevates the crime to a hate crime and sentencing, has this stopped people? No. It’s common knowledge to be cautious what you put on social media as it could effect your employment, college application, scholarship, yet it doesn’t change how people use social media. People have argued that mask mandates violated their free speech and free expression.

It’s appalling that some people so callously say that instead of coming to American, instead of removing the bureaucracy of our immigration process, that they should protest and fight to change things in their own country. Salehi is an example of why people don’t fight, don’t protest, are afraid to fight. We condemn this but at the same time, are callous in thinking that others hold the same freedom of speech. It’s inconceivable and outrageous to us that a person could be sentenced to execution for such a thing. Why? Because we both under appreciate and have an over entitlement of our freedom of speech.
