Did you even read the article?
"The couple told police the group broke a gate to get onto the private street in St. Louis"
Was that true?

People have learned what happens when a mob breaks down gates to get to people.

Benghazi comes to mind.

Sure, nothing like that happened, but those protesters are expecting trust. You have to trust that someone isn’t going to hurt you in order to let your guard down.

That couple was shown that they could be in danger.
According to the couple it's true.

The Castle Doctrine has been around a lot longer than Bengazi.

Seems to me both sides were expecting trust.

That couple is making claims, but the other side is disputing the couple's version of events.

Personally, I would not have gone outside. That was a foolish move on their part. Terrible defense position. They have been overwhelmed in seconds.

They were not cowards. Good for them!

Getting themselves killed sure isn't cowardly. It's plain stupidity.

Would you have gone outside?

Nope. hiding from people is being a coward. Hell yes. I stand up to anyone and yes I carry a piece and will use if necessary.

I would not want you leading my platoon, lol.

How many people were marching down the street?

How many of them had guns (as alleged by the homeowners)?

Do you think standing in the wide open that close together is a strong defensive position?

Put yourself in their position and think about it.

You enter illegally into someone's GATED community and home you take chances. You would be the sergeant that runs from combat. I sure wouldn't want to serve under you.

Would you have stayed inside because there is a possible threat outside?

Yes. In a defensive position. We could defend ourselves much easier with those stone walls as a barrier.

My husband and I used to have discussions about this, lol. We put tree stands up in strategic positions on our property.

So it is understandable how they acted. Lots of people would react in different ways, but the fight or flight instinct was activated for a good reason.

It's just a really bad idea to break down gates and damage other's property. What we're seeing is people fed up with lawless behavior and it will get worse if this keeps up. The whole thing really flies in the face of all the peaceful protests we keep hearing about. No one has the right to damage property belonging to anyone else and that includes protestors. I'm also not liking the idea we're seeing more and more that people don't have the right to protect their property from being damaged or themselves from harm.

That said, I wouldn't have gone outside. I would have called the police and made sure we had pictures of anyone who thought it was fine to damage our property and trespass. Of course things change if anyone tries to break into our house and we're here. Then all bets are off.
