radicalization at al-Hol

If you were to design an environment intended to turn children into radical extremists, you might group together those who are already mild believers, sons of those who died for a radical cause, surround them with ineffective guards belonging to the same group that killed their fathers, deny them access to outside education or unbiased news and make them dependent for any food, healthcare or safety upon the most radical of the remaining extremists who didn't die.

Such an environment is al-Hol, where the children and wives from ISIS have been indefinitely detained, in North-Eastern Syria, close to both Iraq and Turkey.

It isn't exactly a prison camp or a refugee camp.

The best description of it is: a ticking time-bomb.

It’s not new. Extremists have always tried to indoctrinate children from young ages, so they become unable to question anything when they grow up. And you don’t need to imprison them. In most cases, the parents are happy and willing participants:
Check out what a kindergarten graduation looks like in Hamas-ruled Gaza:

And the TV programs children watch:

And you ladies are more worried about this than the children in the US that are sheltering in place with abusive parents?

This is a powder keg and could have been diverted. US consular policy has traditionally been to get US children out of countries where they can be radicalized. In this case, we are ignoring them. It's dangerous and a lost opportunity, IMO.

"The camp was originally established for Iraqi refugees in early 1991, during the Gulf war,[6][7] and was later reopened after the 2003 invasion of Iraq as one of three camps at the Iraqi–Syrian border.[8]

An estimate in September 2019 indicated that the camp held about 20,000 women and 50,000 children from the former ISIL caliphate guarded by 400 SDF militia fighters.[4] "

Currently there are about 20,000 armed ISIS members. This would indicate that there are about 50,000 - 70,000 potential "in the wings".
