You two can’t get past the “political “issues. We would be in great shape if everyone had stayed home. But they didn’t. And we got data from people doing the wrong thing. And we continue to get data from people doing the wrong things.

Studying these protesters in Massachusetts and they also tested Minnesota protesters with similar results, it showed wearing masks and being outdoors were factors in the low transmittal rates. That’s a little bit of good news.

There’s still a strong possibility that these protests are worsening the situation. We don’t know.
As lizard said, it’s not about making this a political issue. It’s about doing our best to protect the people and shorten the duration of the crisis. Children missed school, businesses suffered, people were left without a job all to do what has been proven around the world to truly work which is isolation, but all those take a back seat to protesting? Kids an take classes online, people can talk to their loved ones online, they can work online, people are getting medical checks online, but G-d forbid your can’t go out to protest, that’s THE single most important thing right now and it cannot be done online.
I’m sorry, but that shows screwed up priorities.

Momto2boys973 wrote: Mon Jun 29, 2020 11:28 am Masks help... a little. There are many factors why hospitalizations may be down: more accurate and prompt testing is probably the main one. What makes a huge difference is social distancing, but I guess a few casualties are OK for those who believe protesting is a priority. And even in those pictures there’s a handful of people not wearing masks or wearing them incorrectly. Some studies have suggested that one of the reasons why Covid numbers haven’t increased much in areas that have protests is because the protests actually encourage the majority of citizens to stay home.
Masks are showing to help more than anticipated. It’s not about justifying the protests. They happened, no one was going to be able to stop them. It’s about using the data from what has happened to determine what is needed going forward to protect people.

The data collected from the current hot spots in Florida and Texas and Arizona will also be used to determine what caused these spikes. People not following the rules are the ones to follow to see what happens.

And I agree that it this isn’t a competition.
I didn’t even follow if Texas had protests. I thought the data showed that Texas reopening bars and places where people gathered in close quarters was the main problem.

And it’s the data that’s the story here, not the protests. Outdoor gatherings are not as dangerous as first thought, especially if everyone is wearing masks, though you can still get the virus. Also,.masks are more helpful than they first thought. That’s the takeaway. I think this is a bit of good news.

Yeah, we had protests a few weeks ago after reopening and before the spike. I think reopening has more of an impact but protests probably contributed to it too.

See, this is where contract tracing would be really important, IMO. I think it's too vague to say protestors did or didn't spread the virus. Was the virus spread increased because of protestors who were detained? I know that sounds really simplistic but I think it's important as we open up. Is recess relatively safe? Are outdoor sport practices safe as long as there is mask wearing and social distancing in locker rooms? Are outdoor highly populated concerts and community events safer than indoor dining?

This information is simplistic and not nearly enough. It makes sense to separate the detained results also. But is anyone doing it?

But is the country actually spending the money needed to do these detailed studies or are we always going to have to depend on a type of passive tests. Things happened so let’s get some data on it kind of testing seems to be the only type we have.

It's frustrating to me that contract tracing has even become political. There are some on the right that are convinced that it's too much government control and, well, FEMA camps! But it's important. For example, are people at the beaches (such as Myrtle) causing the spike or is it people frequenting the bars, restaurants, and "Medieval Times" at the beach?

We're opening up and now some states are partially closing again. Information on the spread is important in understanding what is safe, safer, risky.

My daughter took the contract tracing online course and has applied to be a contract tracer in our state. What was emphasized in the course is that she should expect hostility from those she contacts and that is just crazy to me. Of course I shouldn't be surprised. I live in a conservative "no one is going to make me wear a mask" county. FREEEEDOM!

I know, I give up and just stay at home. 😢 It’s too hard to say what contributed to it and what didn’t. And honestly, even if it was the protests...it still goes back to the fact that the state had already reopened, so it still falls on the fact that we reopened too early IMO.

Generally I do too! Unfortunately, I have to deal with the public one day a week and gosh they're mad about everything I'm tired of being hugged and breathed on by those who think the whole thing is a hoax. It's making me hate and feeling violated by a portion of our community and it sucks because prior to this whole thing, this was a community that I loved.

I work every other week in the office but thank god we all are adamant about social distancing. That was a fear of mine. If people want to think it’s a hoax..fine but think it from a distance. It’s selfish and rude to get all up in people’s personal space like that.
