No it wasn't Prove your theory please
Yes they absolutely were. Read up on it.
Would they have been allowed to erect these statues right after the war ended?
They weren't. Some were erected towards the end of the 1800s like 1892, etc. Most around 1920s and then again in the 1940s. To say these statues are a part of history and should stay is denying the fact that these are statues of treasonists. People who tore the country apart. The statues were erected to reinforce Jim Crow and segregation.

Is that what the people who erected them said?

Treason in this sense is the same thing that America itself did with Britain.

The philosopher Socrates once said that in order to win an argument, you must be able to repeat what your opponents arguments are and have a better logic against them.

To an outsider it just does not seem like anyone on either side is accurately describe the motivations of the other.

How many monuments to the confederacy are in your state?
none.
Then how did you learn about it?
306/232

But I'm still the winner! They lied! They cheated! They stole the election!

Yes, true. But Britain lost that war and chose to withdraw. The South, on the other hand lost and the federal government chose to forgive and forget for unity's sake and all treasoners were forgiven. Not one Confederate officer or soldier stood trial for treason.

Bottom line, the statues are hateful and a painful reminder everyday to Black Americans that they still do not have equal rights. And since they were the reason for the Civil War, their voices should be the only ones that matter on this subject. And they have made it quite clear that they want the statues pulled down. And I agree with them. And anyone who is not a racist would too.
