Authorities in Georgia ruled Sunday that the fatal police shooting of Rayshard Brooks outside an Atlanta Wendy's was a homicide.

Brooks, 27, died after he was shot twice in the back on June 12, the Fulton County Medical Examiner's Office said in a statement. Brooks was shot last Friday night after a confrontation with two Atlanta police officers in the parking lot of the fast-food restaurant.

How could being shot in the back not be ruled homicide? The question is going to be whether or not it was justifiable. IMO, it obviously was not but there will be those who feel that it was justified. An unarmed suspect in a non-violent crime possibly escaping (of course house, keys, and ID was retained by police). We need to rethink our policing in the US and cases like this only make it more clear that our system is broken.

The next step would be whether the homicide was justifiable or criminal.

Criminal. There was no reason for it. They had his car. His license. They knew who he was and where he lived. Sometimes you can just them go, you know? Literally no reason to try to escalate, their lives were in no danger. Catch himater when the situation was more defused.

When people talk about an entrenched police problem, this is textbook. Even with the protests, even with the documented brutality, even with body cams, even with cell phones recording everything nowadays, even with the world watching, they still escalated the situation. They still shot to kill. They have generally been safe until now, they've always gotten away with it, and they may again. They have to know that, down deep.
