https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/c ... -referenceThe country band Lady Antebellum announced on Thursday that it changed its name to Lady A.
The decision, which the Grammy-winning group announced on Twitter, comes "after much personal reflection" and conversations with "closest black friends" as Antebellum refers to a period of time "which includes slavery."
Band members, Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, said in a statement they are regretful and embarrassed for not taking into consideration the word’s associations with slavery.

It’s used a lot to describe old southern style homes so I never really found it offensive or know too many people who do but I guess it’s their band to make that call. Don’t really have a strong opinion either way.
Wouldn’t A still stand for antebellum anyway? Lol

What’s next?
HBO removed Gone With the Wind although Hattie McDonald was the first black to win an Oscar for her portrayal of Mammy.
Pelosi wants 11 confederate statues removed from the capitol building.
Since when do we remove everything that might offend someone instead of using it to educate.

It designates a time period meaning pre-war. In America it references prior to the Civil War. If they don't want the association then I understand the choice.

The description of architecture makes sense, to denote a building style or something built pre-Civil War. Nothing offensive about stating a time period. But for a music group it introduces the idea of a time when human slavery was the norm, and has nothing to do with their music. If they don't choose to make that statement any longer it is their choice.SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 4:55 pm It’s used a lot to describe old southern style homes so I never really found it offensive or know too many people who do but I guess it’s their band to make that call. So would you be OK with using Confederate statues to educate? Maybe by including plaques that state they committed treason, fought for the continued enslavement of human beings, killed thousands of US Soldiers, etc.DSamuels wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:30 pm What’s next?

What is different about them today from yesterday? Last week? Last month? Last year? 10 years ago? What was being taught about them differently?
Do you think every southern state, southern resident and descendants are all traitors?

"Every southern state, southern resident and descendants are all traitors" is quite a leap. No - but I do think that. But the Generals who waged war against the United States of America were traitors. Taking up arms against the government of your country is the definition of treason.DSamuels wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:46 pmWhat is different about them today from yesterday? Last week? Last month? And nothing is different about them from yesterday. They never should have been placed in our Capitol.
Hundreds of thousand. Over 600,000 died in that war. Traitors and treasoners.MonarchMom wrote: ↑Thu Jun 11, 2020 5:37 pmSo would you be OK with using Confederate statues to educate? "We are deeply sorry for the hurt this has caused and for anyone who has felt unsafe, unseen or unvalued." Who exactly did they hurt or make feel unsafe? If something offends someone so much they simply don't buy the product or go to their shows as this case may be. I cant imagine anyone ever telling them before they got offended by their name. If I'm wrong why now, 14 yrs in are they finally feeling it needs to be changed?
