A neighboring county is banning all representations of the Confederate flag on school property. This was an initiative that was taken up in February and failed in a vote of 7-1. Today, it passed 8-0. Our county is thinking of following the example (which I support).

Bubba Wallace #43 will also be driving a Black Lives Matter car in the upcoming race in Martinsville.

I am pretty shocked and curious to see what their pro- confederate flag fan base has to say about this.WellPreserved wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:21 pm A neighboring county is banning all representations of the Confederate flag on school property. If you read the comments on the articles reporting this, they are pretty up in arms. But really, who's going to give up NASCAR?SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:32 pmI am pretty shocked and curious to see what their pro- confederate flag fan base has to say about this.WellPreserved wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:21 pm A neighboring county is banning all representations of the Confederate flag on school property. "Backlash to NASCAR's ban on the rebel flag has been almost immediate, with some claiming they will no longer attend or support the organization. There is also anger over Wallace's plan to drive a car emblazoned with a Black Lives Matter hashtag at Wednesday's Martinsville Speedway in Virginia."SouthernIslander wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:32 pmI am pretty shocked and curious to see what their pro- confederate flag fan base has to say about this.WellPreserved wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:21 pm A neighboring county is banning all representations of the Confederate flag on school property. I thought it was started as a rum runner group trying to get away from police?
Seems they always had an “anti-what the government says” point of view, haven’t they?

Nascar has been losing fans for a while now. I know a woman who goes to the races as part of the medical personnel and she's told me that the track in Fort Worth, Texas removed a large portion of seating because they haven't been able to fill it. I doubt that's the only one. Fans have been walking away over several issues. Nascar is still making money but it's transitioning into something different from the looks of things. I doubt it will be recognizable for much longer.

Have you talked to anyone who is a Nascar fan and listened to their point of view or are you just assuming the worst about them due to broad generalizations?Frau Holle wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 5:59 pm I thought it was started as a rum runner group trying to get away from police?

I personally never saw the point. A drag race fine or even if it was shorter. But I heard the races last hours. Who wants to watch cars race round and round that long? But I'm biased. I dated a man who liked NASCAR. He was a knuckle head. Any guy who'd rather tithe to the church instead of fixing up his house, car and pay his student loans is a knuckle head. Also he owned a crazy pit bull. That dog hated strangers. The only bigger knuckle head than him is me for dating him. So I liked NASCAR even less after him. My admiration is for the pit crew. I love how quick they fix the car. They're cool. That's it.wildflowers25 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 10, 2020 6:15 pm Nascar has been losing fans for a while now.
