ROME (AP) — Expressing alarm both about mounting infections and slow government responses, the World Health Organization declared Wednesday that the global coronavirus crisis is now a pandemic but also said it's not too late for countries to act.

By reversing course and using the charged word “pandemic” that it had previously shied away from, the U.N. health agency appeared to want to shock lethargic countries into pulling out all the stops.

“We have called every day for countries to take urgent and aggressive action. We have rung the alarm bell loud and clear,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the WHO chief.

"All countries can still change the course of this pandemic. If countries detect, test, treat, isolate, trace and mobilize their people in the response," he said. “We are deeply concerned by the alarming levels of spread and severity and by the alarming levels of inaction.”

Yes it is, and should have always been called that.
I think that most countries and some leaders, President Trump included, have been doing everything they can in an attempt to figure out the best approach. No one is sitting back and believing its not a serious situation.
I choose to remain optimistic. The vaccine won't be available for probably a year or so.

What's happening in Italy should scare any world leader into action. I really hope Trump turns this over to the scientists to deal with.

How does Trump golfing twice over the weekend (something he’s previously said a President can’t do while also working hard), attending a re-election fundraiser, continuing to schedule rallies and posting things like this (despite the fact that COVID is 10 times more lethal than the flu) indicate he’s taking it seriously? And that’s not even touching the fact that he’s lied about test availability and let his senior staff assert, uncorrected, that it was “contained” while he himself said the cases were “going down” while the numbers were going up.
