They are human and need to blow off steam. I’m sure every leader who has ever met Trump has had a laugh at his expense. They just didn’t get caught.
Let's turn those tables a bit....we've all seen Trump mock other world leaders, politicians, celebrities, and so on.

And I've read here the opinions of a few who found this to be distasteful, wrong, crass, crude, etc., etc. Honestly, they're right.

Again, we're talking world leaders of which--and much to the frustration of many--President Trump is presently one. So then, is he too, blowing off steam when he does it?
Think about it for a minute. These guys were having what they thought was a private conversation. Trump was in front of TV cameras calling Schiff a sick man who is deranged and something weird about his childhood.

Would a reasonable person see these two as similar?
and schiff has said worse about Trump, "mafia boss" "Charlatan" and of course continuously lying about his PROOF of trump colluding with russia. schiff tried to get nude pics of trump- that is sick and deranged. Schiff deserves it.

Doesn't matter what someone "deserves", a leader of a country does not conduct himself that way in front of the whole world. It's not a reality show he's on anymore. Trump's whole team colluded with Russia and to think that Trump had no knowledge of that is naive.

It's hard to believe that any American is OK with their president acting in that manner at an event as important as NATO. And to try and justify it? No words.

No wonder everyone laughs, he's the entertainment for the other leaders of the world.

You can’t hear what the others are saying, but it can certainly be assumed, by what you can hear and looking at the body language of those standing around Trudeau, that the others in the group were actively engaged in the conversation.

And the majority of the US can’t stand Trump so...

In my opinion this video should not have been broadcast. It was a personal conversation, not a public statement. People - even world leaders - should have the right to speak amongst themselves without everything being filmed and broadcast. It is not "newsworthy" and does nothing but increase tension and inhibit productive negotiations.

I do understand this indicates a change in how other countries perceive POTUS and the US, and not for the better. There is a decline in respect and communication. But I'd rather people make statements on the record than be subject to what is essentially eavesdropping tactics.

I agree. Politicians are human and their private conversations are obviously less formal and probably more honest. I’m sure many private conversations between politicians have fallen in the category of mocking or criticizing a colleague. Remember a few years back, Obama was having what he thought was a private conversation with Sarkozy and they started blasting Netanyahu like a couple of gossip girls. They didn’t know their microphones were turned on and it was broadcasted to all the reporters sitting in the next room. Talk about embarrassing! 😂
Trump has a history of clashing with those leaders involved in this conversation- except for Boris Johnson, but he’s pretty new, give it a couple of months, lol- even demeaning them. If he hasn’t showed respect for any of them, they really have no reason to respect him. I just wish we could hear what Macron was saying, speak louder, Emanuel! 😂. And Angela Merkel’s face when they ask Trump in front of her about that video is priceless. Best poker face ever! It’s like she didn’t hear a thing!

And on a side note, I found the comments by late night hosts hilarious:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/12/05/arts ... trump.html

“Yeah, it’s like Trump was at a sleepover and all the other kids turned on him, you know, and now he’s just there like, ‘Mom, I know it’s a day early, but can you come pick me up from NATO?’” — TREVOR NOAH

“Mr. President, you shouldn’t be in a place where people are going to laugh at you behind your back. You get on Air Force One and you fly straight back home, where we promise that we will laugh at you to your face.” — TREVOR NOAH

“He was like, ‘Take me back to where I’m respected’ and then flew home to where he’s being impeached.” — JIMMY FALLON

“Trump is like, ‘If you are going to trash somebody, do it like a man. You know, at 3 a.m. on Twitter.’” — JAMES CORDEN

🤣😂🤣😂🤣

They’re supposed to be posted in the group for political memes but she doesn’t follow rules.
