How do you feel about the administration requiring asylum seekers remain at the border in Mexico? There are so many private charitable organizations that are willing to assist asylum seekers. How do you feel about them being shut out of the process?
My question those private charitable organizations is how are they currently helping US citizens, born/naturalized? Are they providing for them as well?

I don't believe a charitable organization should be turned away from helping the asylum seekers provided they are also helping current US citizens.
I don’t understand your last paragraph? Should refugee and asylum non profits be required to donate a percentage of funds to US citizens? Certainly that is not what you’re trying to say.
You stated "charitable organizations," and did not specify that they're designed exclusively for refugees and asylum seekers in your original question to me.

That makes a difference.

The majority of these asylum seekers are working, paying taxes, doing their share so why are some so worried about our financial issues? It doesnt make sense. (unless it’s just another way to show prejudice against foreigners?)

Well, well, well, I’m guessing you won’t be getting pissed anymore when stereotypes of Always Trumpers start coming up, right? Or is it only OK to stereotype and demean when YOU do it?

Having said that, being capable of empathy and compassion doesn’t mean one has to live in poverty in order to help. Funny how you despise socialism and then come with such a socialist concept. It also doesn’t mean that that person has to single handedly be the solution to a problem. My heart breaks every time I see an abused animal, that doesn’t mean I have to adopt every stray I run into or that I have to deny myself all comfort to save puppies. It also doesn’t mean that I can’t judge animal abusers as despicable and disgusting individuals. Do you feel bad for, let’s say, abused American kids at all? I mean, I’m sure we can agree that those do deserve your compassion, right? So are YOU giving up all your “luxuries” to save all the abused children of America? How many have you adopted?

But I see by your comment why Trump’s tactic of vilifying immigrants has worked so well amongst his followers. It dehumanizes these people and makes them unworthy of any compassion and empathy. Just like Hitler did with Jews.

I’m not saying this to shame but to state what has happened as a result of the constant bombardment of bad news coming at us in images and interviews and analysis 24/7. It hurts too much to feel all the pain in the world and so we have turned off our feelings, shut them down, in order to keep on keeping on."

answer honestly, how much of your money goes to charity? how much could you cut to help others.
think about this- give up all luxuries, downgrade your home, give up your car and walk, go vegetarian, give up all materialism.

you'd save thousands of dollars a year and you could give all of that to people living in severe poverty all over the world. but you wont.

the average bleeding heart lib will not give up their soy milk lattes, avocado toast, blue hair dye, expensive clothes, accessories, homes, cars, cable, Iphones, Mac computers, $100k college educations etc for complete strangers. they will NOT invite desperate strangers into their homes.

hell they wont even give a dollar to the homeless masses in their own cities. so excuse me if this seems like emotional manipulation to me.

I still don't understand your position on charitable giving for asylum seekers. If my husband's church wants to sponsor or financially support asylum seekers, do you feel that they need to provide for US citizens first? Aren't charities allowed to give to the causes they support without "US first" requirements?

My heart breaks for the people who are citizens in this country that need help. That’s why I donate items and money to different organizations that help the needy in my city. My sons preschool is collecting non perishables and other items(toilet paper, feminine hygiene projects, diapers etc) for a local organization that gives people items weekly. I make blessing bags that have food, extra socks, mini soaps, and quarters for the needy in my city when I see some begging for money on the street. We have plenty of homeless here already.

So only the poor that are lucky enough to be American deserve compassion and empathy?

I think a county needs to take care of their own before they take care of other people. Just like a household. I would make sure my children would taken care of before I took care of other children. Why should I take money that my kids would need for care to spend it on a different child? A country should be the same it should take care of its “children” before other countries “children”. Would you take money for another family if you only had enough to feed your children?

There are ways of doing both. And asylum seekers aren’t looking for free housing and handouts. They want to work and be productive and actually contribute to American economy. So helping them achieve that actually ends up helping those American poor as well.
And again, we’re talking about feeling empathy and compassion, not about solving all the problems. We all choose who we help with our limited time and resources, that’s besides the point. The title says “if you heart doesn’t break for asylum seekers”, it doesn’t say “if you don’t help out asylum seekers”. Trump has done a great job at vilifying and dehumanizing them and making his followers believe that they’re not deserving of compassion, but of contempt.

I feel bad for them but I don’t think they should be a priority when the US has homeless and people out of work.
