"Two top officials with the Department of Housing and Urban Development admitted at a congressional hearing this week that the agency knowingly missed a legally required deadline that would have made desperately needed hurricane relief funding available to Puerto Rico.
HUD’s chief financial officer, Irv Dennis, and David Woll, the department's principal deputy assistant secretary for community planning and development, made the admission Thursday before a House Appropriations subcommittee.
The two told bewildered lawmakers that the agency missed the congressionally mandated deadline to issue a notice that would have kicked off a monthslong process to help Puerto Rico get billions in federal housing funds Congress allocated after Hurricane Maria devastated the island in 2017."

Disgusting. Totally reprehensible and inexcusable. They knew that people would suffer and die as a direct result.
I hope they suffer short lifetimes of excruciating, debilitating diseases surrounded by uncaring doctors and mean nurses. That’s what they deserve in this life.

This whole administration is rotten to the core. I hope these HUD officials face criminal investigations.

So why have they not appointed the appropriate people to oversee and help manage these funds? They're waiting for some study from PR all this time?
I understand the sentiment of not wanting those funds squandered as sometimes tends to happen when the unscrupulous get their hands on a large sum of money, but it's been 2 years.
There are professional trustees out there. There's obviously very clearly a question about them managing things on their own. Fine. Operate under that principle then. They can't be trusted. Then hire an outside admin firm for the love of all that is holy and get this moving already.
PR was already in the shits economically before this tragedy. It's not like they've got enough cash to move efforts forward on their own and wait for reimbursement. Jesus.
