Cardiologists typically do not do echos. A tech does. The cardiologist then looks over it and gives you the results.

As for physicians doing echos... yes they do and are certified and teach other physicians how to do them ( see SCCM- society of critical care medicine). These physicians are typically anesthesiologists who go on to do a fellowship in critical care medicine and work as intensivists in a SICU, and anesthesiologists who go on to do a cardiac fellowship ( to specialize in open heart and cardiac surgery anesthesia). Surgeons are also trained in echos as residents during their SICU rotations , but typically do not perform the procedure once in practice.

Like any other procedure, the quality of an echo (especially capturing and measuring) is dependent on the tech or physician doing it. If your physician doesn’t typically do them and has a tech do them, then go with the tech. Your physician can go over the images and measurements with you. If your physician is in the office when you get it done, then the tech can call him in if there is a question.

Keep in mind this is a non invasive procedure so a tech doing this should not be a cause for worrying.

I have had a ton of echos over the years and my Cardiologist has never been there for them. Ever. The tech has done them and then he has gotten the results.
This. They probably either own the equipment or rent it from the company that the tech works for.
The tech will do the actual test and the doctor will read it. Plus, doctors have office hours when they're not seeing patients.

You trust that? They don't know your heart. Wouldn't you rather you dr did it?
I can't speak for how the techs are regulated where you are, but where I am techs need to have a diploma, degree or graduate certificate in the medical field just to be considered to the college program. Then you spend 2-4 years I'm the program and complete two 450 hour clinical placements.. so it's not like these techs go in knowing nothing.

Unless your doctor is a cardiologist then you're better off with the tech who knows what they're doing.

I said I tought my dr only works in the office on Monday and Wednesday. She said that was true. I asked if she came in for Tuesaday to do Echos. She told me that a specialized tech would do my Echo. I told her that I would feel better if my dr did it. My dr knows my heart and knows everything about me. The lady at the office told me that drs don't do Echos. If she doesn't do it then I want her in the room to make sure the special tech knows what to do.

The lady said the best she can do is schedule me when my dr is in the office.

I don't know if I trust this.
You are being dramatic for no reason. Why do you not trust the tech? When I get my mammograms it's done by the office tech.

You're the difficult patient that all the office workers talk about.

Good grief! Your doctor won't do your echocardiogram. I've had several and it never even occurred to me to expect my doctor to do the test.

They're a specialist. This is... LITERALLY what they are trained to do. That's why they do it and not the doctor. You understand the doctor is going to get the results from the tech, right?

I'm sensing that you have a great deal of anxiety about your heart condition and it's spilling over into getting this procedure. Like everyone said, this is a highly specialized field and it is something a technician normally does. I would trust the facility that your doctor is referring you to and try doing something that will distract you and take your mind off of this test.
