UGH, truly a nightmare for everyone involved.
We have had incidents within my community where this has been an issue. The police were involved every time because the pictures inevitably got passed and talked about on school premises. Then of course along comes the local news coverage.
We have had that too with three actual people I know with young teen girls where they were groomed online. In two cases, part of the grooming was sending pictures then those two 13 year old's had plans to meet a guy. The other was 13 as well but was a case of just sharing pictures. Thankfully none of it ever ended up at school.
It is so scary. One particular young girl's situation was broadcasted all over the news. I often wonder how she got past all of it and how she is doing today. For an upper-middle-class area, we also have ha high incidents of suicide in multiple school districts that have had to be addressed.
Oh I get it! The thing is that this is problem is not class orientated. It might even be more towards middle, upper middle and beyond because these kids have access to so much technology that they don't have to share with siblings and they are often in larger homes with much privacy. All three of the incidents that I mentioned were from upper middle class families.
I will never say never, but 99 percent I will say this situation won't happen to my two girls. We do unannounced spot checks, but they can work around that if they want. The only thing we can do is hopefully provide the moral code they need to make the right choice and put the threat of extreme consequences in place - which we have!
