It was right after I bought my truck. Some friends and I went to a casino with a parking garage. Well, we were getting ready to leave, and I told my friends I would meet them back at my truck, and drive them home. I get off the elevator on the floor I thought I was parked on. I see my truck. No big deal. I drop the tailgate, and sit there waiting for my friends to come out. This guy comes walking out of the elevator, and he looks very confused. He asked me if he could help me. I told him no, I'm fine, just waiting for my friends. He tells me I'm sitting on his tailgate. I told him that he was mistaken, because this was my truck. Just then my phone rang. It was my friend asking where I was, because they were waiting at my truck. I apologized, put his tailgate up and walked away. Seriously, our trucks were the same color, neither of them had plates on them yet, so both had the dealer plates, which was the only Ford dealer in town. They were identical. Turns out, I had parked one level up, in the same area of this truck. I've never been so embarrassed before lol. My friends still give me the business about that, and it happened in 2003.
OMG! That would have floored me.
But along those lines (a little bit)...When I was in Mexico, a young girl asked me if I would be interested in giving her $1,000. for her baby!

While I was taking their order they asked me my plans for college and mentioned how much I looked like the wife. I was always friendly and had no problem talking with them as they seemed like genuinely nice people.
Before they left they offered to adopt my baby and give me compensation.

That is so sad. I hope she never found anyone because my hear breaks at the thought of what sort of person would buy a baby like that illegally, and what the baby would suffer through. Ugh!Anonymous 5 wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 10:03 pm OMG! That would have floored me.

I love it! I'll bet your friends have gotten some mileage out of that story!
I've already gotten into a car and put my key in the ignition & wondered why it wouldn't start! And my poor daughter...She was in high school at the time. She was going to choke me for putting her into that embarrassing situation! We laugh about it a lot now, though, years after the fact.

It was very disturbing to me and yes, very very sad. I can't imagine how desperate she must have been to have made that offer. When it happened, I distinctly remember thinking to myself, "I wonder how often this goes on in this very poor side of town." Very sad.

One time, I opened up the automatic door of my common silver Honda mini-van and stranger children climbed in, lol. We were at a soccer complex.
I was shocked, they were shocked. They quickly exited saying they made a mistake, after I uttered, “uh, hi, I am M’s mom, am I supposed to take you home for your mom or dad?”

My DH is snoozing on the couch alongside me as I type. Your response just made me LAUGH OUT LOUD and I startled him! That is hysterical! I can see the newspaper headline, "Woman charged with attempted kidnapping at the soccer complex."

I haven’t thought of that incident in about 13 years but I remember being so shocked. What kind of people offer to buy a complete stranger’s baby...especially after a maybe 5 minute interaction?!Anonymous 5 wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 10:03 pm OMG! That would have floored me.

That’s very sad and disturbing about the young girl in Mexico. I can’t even begin to imagine the desperation she must have felt to get to that level.

I have friends that suffer from infertility, and they have things in common with the girl from Mexico, sure, they have the opposite reason, but still feel such deep despair. They want out of their childless situation so so bad, a few do get a bit crazy, longing for possibilities everywhere.SoFloMom wrote: ↑Tue May 26, 2020 11:14 pmI haven’t thought of that incident in about 13 years but I remember being so shocked. Not that it was socially acceptable, I am sorry they freaked you out, but I understand their plight. Maybe they were similar? Or perhaps just nutty...

After a 5-10 minute interaction with a complete stranger who in no way implied that she wanted to give her baby up...to just offer to buy said baby...yeah, I’d say nutty.LiveWhatULove wrote: ↑Wed May 27, 2020 8:02 amI have friends that suffer from infertility, and they have things in common with the girl from Mexico, sure, they have the opposite reason, but still feel such deep despair. There are adoption agencies and children in the system that couples facing infertility could work with.
