I'm sure there are places in Africa or Vietnam where drought or whatever is so bad you would eat the damned maggot ridden food and be thankful you have it. It's not like someone decided this was a delicacy for the hell of it. No... someone was probably desperately starving, ate the cheese and realized "this stuffs not half bad". I heard sauces were invented originally to disguise the taste of rotten meat. "Shrugs".
